Burton R. Gesserman, a licensed CPA, earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 1975 and his Master of Science in Taxation from Bentley College in 1983. Burt is a past chairman of Alliott Group North America, a worldwide alliance of independent accounting, law and consulting firms, where he also served on its Worldwide Board of Directors. With nearly 40 years in public practice, he’s built a substantial and loyal client base who have come to rely on his keen insight and timely responses.
With a primary focus on the real estate industry – both commercial and residential – Burt advises Walter & Shuffain’s clients on tax planning, deal structuring and business planning.
Burt and his wife, Dianne, live in Sharon and are the extremely proud parents of two daughters, one of whom practices law at a financial services firm in Boston, and the other who works in educational outreach for The Broad Institute in Cambridge. Burt and Dianne enjoy traveling and golf and are members of Spring Valley Country Club in Sharon. They also enjoy organizing the Annual Gesserman Turkey Bowl for family and friends, their Thanksgiving Day touch football game that’s been played every year for more than 50 years.
Giving back to the community is something in which Burt greatly believes. He is the president of the board of directors of B'nai B'rith Housing New England, which develops senior and affordable housing in Greater Boston, and serves as treasurer and member of the board of directors of Boston Main Streets Foundation, which helps create safe, clean and vibrant business communities in the heart of Boston’s urban neighborhoods.
Burt is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.
