After graduating from American University in Washington D.C. with his BS in accounting, Mark Ravera began his career with one of the country’s larger firms, Arthur Andersen. He quickly realized he wanted to work with closely-held companies and their owners so he soon transferred to a local firm in D.C. He relocated to Boston in 2004 to join the team at Walter & Shuffain where he is now a shareholder.
With 15 years of experience in public accounting, tax compliance and financial statement attestation, Mark is able to provide Walter & Shuffain’s clients with an exemplary level of expertise. While Mark’s specialty is in advising regional real estate developers in a variety of complex tax transactions including purchase and sale, like-kind exchanges, installment sales, carried interests and complex waterfall analyses, he also works with a wide variety of our clients. These businesses include venture capital firms, hospitality services and construction industries, start-up companies, medical and dental practices and non-profits.
Mark and his wife, Shira, have three young children. Originally from Long Island, he’s embraced New England’s notoriously chilly winters and has recently been teaching his children to ski and ice skate. When time allows, he plays pick-up basketball. Mark is a big fan of fantasy football and tries to see at least one NFL game a week during the season. Mark and his family are also active in their temple where he serves on various committees and boards.
Mark is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants.
