With his experience in investment management, registered investment advisors and private foundations, Stephen Candelario brings energy and enthusiasm to his work at Walter Shuffain. He started his career as an investment accountant at an asset management firm and joined public accounting in 2006. A partner at his previous firm, Stephen joined Walter Shuffain as a shareholder.

Stephen offers a unique set of skills for RIAs. As an auditor for surprise custody exams, he can help RIAs understand what triggers custody of certain clients. As an advisor, he can discuss matters such as compensation and cash flow planning for the business. Keeping tabs on new SEC risk alerts for investment managers is also part of his advisory role with RIAs.

With private foundations, Stephen oversees audits and reviews. Throughout the year, clients trust him for guidance on issues such as foundation distribution calculations or interim financials prior to board meetings. He enjoys contributing to the health and strength of foundations by monitoring the markets and helping leaders allocate their assets and also manage payouts to prevent excise tax. He is accessible to discuss their operational and financial goals.

While working with his closely held business clients such as medical practices, Stephen may be providing cash flow analysis, discussing budget forecasting or helping owners create a solid financial foundation through Walter Shuffain’s outsourced client accounting and advisory services (CAS).

Stephen received his bachelor’s degree in Economics-Finance, his Certificate in Accounting, his Master’s in Taxation degree and his Graduate Certificate in Financial Planning from Bentley University.
